Mezzo Italian Restaurant next to iconic Melbourne Laneway

February 19, 2015

2015-02 Amphlett LaneAmphlett Lane – off Little Bourke Street, right next to Mezzo Italian Restaurant Melbourne CBD – was officially declared open yesterday by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.

The newly-named Melbourne laneway honours Australia’s “first lady of rock”, the late Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett.

Marked with a commemorative plaque, the laneway features two artworks: one of the singer’s trademark schoolgirl uniform by Tasmanian artist Peter Gouldthorpe (pictured), and a stencil work by Melbourne artists Damien Arena.

The artworks will be hard to miss for Mezzo’s pre theatre diners, as you wander up towards the Princess Theatre in Spring Street where Amphlett famously performed.
